I came across this post this morning from the Blog over at Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery.
“Bottling is coming up on February 6. That’s this Tuesday. The forecast temperature for Tuesday: 20F! This will add some extra effort to the bottling campaign. The mobile bottling line sets up outside on the crush pad. I’ll need to keep the empty bottles inside until the last second they are needed. Essentially temperature management of the bottles, wine, and bottling line trailer is necessary so that the labels will stick to the bottle. It’s all about condensation.”
I’ve been in the Weather Information industry for a decade. Every day I think about how weather affects people and businesses. I think about weather risk. About once per quarter I run accross a very interesting weather impact that most people simply don’t think about. Well, this is this it!
If it’s too cold your bottle labels won’t stick. It ended up reaching 37 degrees F that day. Hopefully temperature was not too much of a problem.
The blog is published by Tim Gorman “the grape-grower and winemaker for my family’s small farm named Cardinal Point Vineyard and Winery in Afton, Virginia”.
It unfortunately has not been updated since 2007. I’d love to see more posts because the Blog is very intersting.
