The other night I finished a Memorial Day barbeque with Veritas Vineyards and Winery‘s 2006 Othello. The description from its web site describes it as:
“Othello, our noble hero, held high in men’s regard, epitomizes our ruby-styled Port wine fortified to win the heart of Port aficionados. Do not think of Othello as a Port in a storm; it is crafted with three grape varieties in equal proportions—Tannat, Touriga Nacional and Petit Verdot, and then aged for two years in oak. 17% Alcohol by Volume.

Tasting Notes
The result is a wine with an alluring aroma of plum, black cherries, blackberries and caramel. Sweet and powerful, the smooth, textured tannins give the dark fruit flavors a glowing, ember-like finish that lingers with a velvety warmth.”
The tasting description is very accurate. The Othello is a very good Port with strong blackfruit flavors. I happened to believe blackberries are the strongest. This is an excellent Port and a reccomended post dinner “sipper”.
